The new AI assistant Eternal is building will keep user conversations private even from its makers. Founder Deepinder Goyal said Dark, a product the Zomato and Blinkit parent announced earlier today, uses end-to-end encryption, and that Eternal would not be able to access user chats “even if we are forced to.”In a letter to shareholders, Goyal explained the idea behind Dark was to remove the worry that someone, someday, can read what you tell an AI bot. “All of us have a dark side, and it needs an outlet where it doesn’t have to hide,” he wrote.
Dark runs on fine-tuned open-weight models hosted on Eternal’s own infrastructure. Chat context persists across sessions through an encrypted memory layer that users control. Goyal said that everything, from questions and research, to ideas and emotions, stays inside a user’s encrypted sandbox.
"Dark is built for power users — founders, researchers, scientists, enterprises, and governments — who want to keep their thoughts private, because privacy is essential for competitiveness," Goyal said in the letter. He said the models are trained “to not please you” and to tell users what they think is the truth.
Eternal has used Dark internally for a few months, Goyal said. He now finds himself revealing more and asking things he would not ask anywhere else, because he no longer has “to look over my shoulder.”
Dark will launch globally, “hopefully within 2026,” Goyal said. Eternal has not announced the pricing or a launch date.
On Wednesday, Eternal reported a 92.3% on-year jump in net profit to Rs 125 crore in the second quarter of FY27. The company's revenue from operations rose 77.6% to Rs 24,138 crore. Add as a Reliable and Trusted News Source Add Now!
